There weren't many roads. People had to get around on horses C-09660 |
There was no electricity, no indoor plumbing, no washing machines, no disposable diapers, and only a few stores to buy what was needed. It was hard to get around, because there weren't many roads back then.
It was important for my mother Sarah to make friends with other mothers in the new colony, so that they could help each other.

I had to help look after my younger sisters and brothers, and help my mother with the cooking and cleaning. Sometimes I would even miss school because there was so much work to be done!
