Peter Verigin

The leader of the largest group of Doukhobors in Russia was Peter "Lordly" Verigin. He gave his group the name the "Christian Community of Universal Brotherhood".

He was exiled in Russia's Siberia from 1887 to 1902 because of his religious and political beliefs.

 

In 1902, Verigin was allowed to leave Russia. In 1903 he came to Canada to lead his people.

 

Peter Verigin guided the direction of the Doukhobor community for the next 22 years, until his death in 1924.
