Multiculturalism

This gallery exhibits photographs and artwork in the BC Archives collection focusing on work by immigrants "seeing with new eyes". The text includes information on immigration and settlement in British Columbia.


Classroom Activities

  • In a series of diagrams, show how the First Nations people made a bow and arrow.

  • Focus on Skills:

  • Read the story of first contact between Chief Maquinna and Captain Cook, as told by Mrs. Winnifred David. Write Captain Cook's diary, describing the first contact from his point of view.

  • Choose one of the groups of immigrants discussed in the Gallery and perform a skit explaining:

    a)  Why you are leaving your home company
    b)  Why you chose Canada to move to
    c)  How you feel about moving to Canada
